Roller Skate and Ice Skate Size Guide

When getting your skate size, it is better to base your skate size on the cm or inches measurement of your foot. Roller skates and ice skates usually have a different sizing from regular shoes, so your regular US or EU sizing may not be reliable when it comes to skates. You can use your regular shoe size as a sense check only. In this guide we will show you how to properly measure both your feet.

Each brand of roller skates also has a different sizing and each skate model can also have different sizings. So always refer to the size chart of the specific skate model you're interested in.

Recommended fit for skates is snug (or saktong fit) so you can better control your skates. But fit should not be uncomfortable, your toes should not be crunched in the toe box.

When getting your skate size, we usually look at 2 measurements: the length of your foot and the width of your foot.

You should measure both your feet because usually our feet do not come in the same size. One foot is always bigger than the other. It is suggested that you follow the measurement of your bigger and wider foot when choosing your skate size.

1. Getting your foot length

You should get your foot length while standing up and putting all your weight on the foot you are measuring. Remember to measure both your feet. You can follow this guide to get your foot length:

Most roller skates only have 1 width for all sizes (commonly medium width), so most of the time, roller skaters only need to get their foot length.

You can download the sizing templates here:

 NOTE:

If using a tape measure or ruler only, this is where you should start and end your measurements:

2. Getting your foot width

Knowing your foot width is more common with ice skates. To measure the width of the foot, find the widest part of your foot and wrap a tape measure around it. Similar to how waistlines are measured. You should do this while sitting down on a chair.

Usually, if you have wide feet we recommend to size up 1 size if the skates come in medium width. If the skates come in wide width, no need to size up. The width of the skates is mentioned in the product description.

3. Getting your skate size

After getting these 2 measurements, check the size chart of the skates you want. Refer to the cm or inches column of the size chart and find the corresponding skate size. The skate size you get is your skate size for that specific skate model.

Here's a sample size chart for skate length. Layout can vary per skate and per brand. Make sure to check the size chart of the specific skate you're intersted in. Skate width usually has a separate size chart.
